IAML - International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres - was founded in 1951 and includes members from 45 countries. 24 of these countries have independent national associations.
The aim of IAML is
- to encourage and strengthen the cooperation within the field of music documentation
- to promote understanding of the necessity of music documentation
- to support international projects in this field
- to support the availablity of publications and documents relating to music
- to support the development of international and national standards
Institutions as well as individuals may apply for membership, usually through their national branch. The official languages are English, French, and German.
Proposals for 'a better IAML'
The Danish and Norwegian branches of IAML present a wish for changes in the IAML Constitution and Rules of Procedure. We suggest
- A more widely ranged electronic communication
- To renew the conference programme
- A new conference frequency
- An identical voting procedure
- Reducing the number of official languages
Feel free to read our letter to the board of IAML. Full description attached.
